The only component that must be joined to the domain is the View Connection Server (this may be a VM). Obviously, if you want SSO to the desktop VMs they should be in the domain too. Other components do not need to be in a domain, but basics such as DNS for resolving hostnames must be configured. Most customers choose to add vCenter and Composer to their domain though for ease of management.
