It seems the issue has been fixed after I reinstalled my Windows 7 onto a SSD (which I still needed to do). I've also upgraded from 6GB to 16GB of RAM into the laptop. I'm not sure if that helped any as I didn't test in between reinstalling and upgrading max RAM.
